Contemporary Architecture - A Brief Guide

Contemporary architecture is simply the art of architecture designed in the last ten years or so. No single style is predominant; many architects are working on many different styles, ranging from high-tech and abstract to highly expressive and conceptual forms and styles, resembling sculptural forms on an enormous level. The current designs and styles of modern architects include the classic, modernist and minimalist styles. Of all the styles of contemporary architecture, however, the modernist styles have received the most attention.

When it comes to contemporary architecture, the most recognizable is the office building. Many buildings have become very popular in the past decade, ranging from office buildings designed by architectural firms to mid-rise apartment complexes and even large corporate buildings. In recent years, this has been especially true for mid-rise office buildings, such as those that are located in downtown areas.

Modern architecture is sometimes used to describe the styles of modern houses and buildings, as well. There is a big difference between traditional house construction and contemporary house construction, however. While most traditional houses are built with large stone foundations and are built on foundations that are typically large stones, contemporary houses are often constructed on smaller stone structures. These stones are not usually put together like traditional stones, and they are not placed exactly together. These were very influential styles in the 20th century, because they emphasized the use of decorative elements to create architectural structures. These architectural styles are particularly common in the United States, and there are some beautiful examples of their work still standing today. In addition to using decorative elements to create artistic structures, many art Deco and futurists designed their buildings to be very energy efficient.

Other styles of contemporary architecture, including those that are considered minimalistic, were more popular in the past. These include types of architecture that have smaller open spaces and are often used for residential purposes. One example is the style known as the cottage garden, which is very common in small rural areas.

When it comes to contemporary architecture, many people believe that contemporary designs look like abstract art. Because of their large amounts of space and their lack of a centralized focus, they are thought to be able to be anything from beautiful, elegant to plain boring. In fact, many people feel that contemporary architecture is nothing more than an extension of the abstract nature of modern art. While contemporary architecture can be very artistic in its designs, it cannot be called a true form of art, because it is often created in an effort to fit in with the environment around it.
